5 Unique Capo’s

Published on 07/16/2009 by Elwood | 20,645 views.

The Glider Capo

Glider Capo

Glider Capo

The Glider Capo is a bit strange in that in addition to clamping the strings it can quickly be rolled to higher or lower frets.

This is convenient if your changing the position of your capo over a short range – but not particularly useful over long ranges (consider unclamping a capo at at the first fret and moving it to the 7th vs. rolling this capo all the way up the fretboard). Overall it’s innovative and doesn’t look bad either.

Shortcut Capo

Mini Capo

Mini Capo

This “mini” Capo may not be so atypical to experienced guitar players. For many though, it’s hard to find a need to only barre some of the strings. This might be a fun thing to experiment with though.

Partial Guitar Capo

Multi Capo

Partial Capo

The “Universal Partial Capo” allows barring of strings selectively. This opens the doorway to a wide range of creative songs. However, changing the tuning can have the same effect on the notes themselves, although you won’t produce the same notes in the same octaves.

Golden Gate Square Neck Resophonic Guitar Capo

Square Neck Capo

Resophonic Capo

This Capo barres the strings in the traditional manner (topside) and from underneath the strings. This innovative design supposedly reduces or eliminates  ”string bounce”, overtones, and string damage. The name suggests it’s for square necks too – but I’d be surprised if it didn’t work on a thick round neck.

The Makeshift Capo

I suppose we can’t forget the Capo that is practically free and you can make on your own. See how to here.

as for the usefullness of the short capo, i used to capo everything but the low e string at the second fret for a sort of drop d type sound without changing tuning. (was great with e and a chords especially) and would sometimes use two capos

I just want to say…I own a glider capo and a good ol’ fashioned kyser capo. I DO NOT suggest purchasing a glider capo. It’s a great concept, but functionality wise it’s no good. Mine worked alright for the first couple months, after which I get a lot of string buzz/dampening on my high E string. As suggested in the little owners manuel that came with it, I took it off when storing the guitar…now the side that opens up doesn’t want to even stay on the capo. Falls off every time I take it off. In short it just wasn’t worth the $25 I paid for it. Stick to the regular clamp style capos.
